The Huerquehue National Park has a lot of different trails in the forest. Especially interesting are the monkey puzzle trees. It is nice, but it is quite busy as it is in one of the most famous regions in Chile. The close-by volcano Villarrica is beautiful – and active. This leads to countable natural hot springs to visit and after a hiking day just the thing to do. We went to Termas Los Pozones.

Es ist nett, aber ziemlich üppig besucht, schließlich ist es in einer der berühmtesten Regionen Chiles. Der nahegelegene Vulkan Villarrica ist wunderschön und aktiv. Nicht umsonst ist die Erde sehr fruchtbar. Auch führt es zu zahlreichen natürlichen heißen Quellen und nach einem Wandertag ist das genau das Richtige. Wir waren in den Thermen von Los Pozones.
The Patagonia National Park is a must. Unfortunately it is not free entrance anymore, but the trails are fabulous. You feel like in another world. If you didn’t see Guanacos yet, here is your chance.

Der Nationalpark Patagonia ist zwar seit einigen Jahren leider nicht mehr kostenfrei, aber mehr als empfehlenswert. Atemberaubende Aussichten, man kommt sich vor wie in einer anderen Welt. Wer bisher keine Guanakos (Lama Guanicoe) zu Gesicht bekommen hat, hier ganz bestimmt.
We made it until Villa O’Higgins and if you have done all the road of the Carretera austral it is kind of a nice ending. There is a little trek (and big trail if you like) that offers a great view over the valley and into the mountains which give an idea how rough and complex these region gets afterwards. If you want to continue you will have to abandon your car, organize boats and cross places where nobody lives or walks.
The boat between Puerto Yungay and Puerto Bravo is free of charge (3 times a day). Die Fähre zwischen Puerto Yungay und Puerto Bravo ist kostenfrei und fährt 3 mal am Tag.

Mit der Zeit im Nacken schafften wir es dennoch bis Villa O‘Higgins, dort wo die Straße der Carretera austral im Süden aufhört. Wer hier weiter möchte, muss laufen und Boote organisieren. Es gibt einen kleinen (und auch größeren) Wanderweg der zu einer erstaunlichen Aussicht führt. Es lässt nur ahnen wie wild und weit das Gebirge ist.
We absolutely recommend the Marble Caves nearby Puerto Rio Tranquilo/ General Carrera Lake. Even if it is very touristic, it is a very special formation of nature. You have to buy a boat trip or you can rent kayaks, usually in groups. If you are there out-season you have to get up early and maybe accept a higher price. Some people negotiate or aim for the cheapest company – there are quite a lot, everything in Rio Tranquilo is about the trip to the Marble formations. If possible you should choose a sunny day to get the outstanding colors and choose the morning because of upcoming wind in the afternoon. Also keep in mind, that cash is the king.

Wir empfehlen absolut die Marmorhöhlen bei Puerto Rio Tranquilo/ See General Carrera. Auch wenn der Ort sehr touristisch geprägt ist, es ist ein außergewöhnliches Gebilde der Natur. Es gibt im Grunde zwei Optionen: man kauft ein Ticket für eine Bootstour an einen der vielen Ständen oder man kann Kajaken. Außerhalb der Saison gibt es allerdings nicht viele Veranstalter die spontane Touren anbieten. Entweder man hat ein Datum und bucht im Voraus oder man hofft, dass ein Veranstalter eine Gruppe zusammenbastelt. Immerhin gibt es hier nur Restaurants und den Ausflug aufs Wasser. Ein sonniger Tag ist empfehlenswert für das Farbschauspiel und es ist besser am Morgen, da nachmittags oft Wind aufkommt und teilweise großer Wellengang entstehen kann. Auch wichtig: Bargeld!

Die Insel Chiloe ist eine verträumte Region. Unzählige Holzkirchen prägen die Dörfer, zahlreiche Vögel finden hier ein Platz zu pausieren. Ein perfekter Ort um die Seele baumeln zu lassen und authentisches Inselleben kennenzulernen.
During the hike “La Vuelta de Huemul” in El Chalten, our Belgian friend was busy out marking the beauty of the famous Road Carretera Austral which crosses a big part of Chile, specifically the Patagonian part. We realized it could be a nice opportunity to get to know this country before moving northwards. Because public transport is rare we decided to rent a car for 25 days. In Puerto Montt we didn’t find one, so we went north by bus, visited Valparaiso and Santiago and took the car from there. We didn’t know yet that the taxes would be tremendous, but in the end it was a magical trip. We crossed so many different landscapes, canyons, deserts, forests like in Jurassic Park, blue rivers, the famous marble caves, we made Rafting in Futaleufu and we even saw the South point Villa O’Higgins. Funny was it to take Chilean hitchhikers which was great to learn about country and people. Due to weather conditions and freedom to sleep wherever it seems nice, we slept in the back of the car.
We have to mention that some travelers choose to hitchhike and some do it by bike. Hitchhikers have to know that there is not so much traffic in the rural areas. We took some along the way and they told us that you have to wait for hours. Same for bikers, the weather is shifting quickly and it rains a lot. Some streets are very steep and have big sharp stones even if the road is constantly in construction to improve. Considering the time of visa we decided the easiest way by car and enjoyed to be flexible.

Während unserer Wanderung „La Vuelta de Huemul“ in El Chaltén machte unser belgischer Freund ununterbrochen Werbung für die Schönheit der berühmten Straße Carretera Austral, welche einen großen Teils des südlichen – patagonischen- Chiles zugängig macht. Wir nahmen uns die Idee zu Herzen und entschieden uns für diese Möglichkeit das Land Chile kennenzulernen bevor wir weiter in den Norden ziehen. Öffentliche Verkehrsmittel gibt es so gut wie nicht, wir hatten keine Fahrradausrüstung wie die Belgier und zu Fuß beziehungsweise per Anhalter ist sehr ungewiss und mitunter mit viel Zeit verbunden. In Puerto Montt war es unmöglich ein Auto zu finden, so beschlossen wir mit dem Bus erst Valparaiso und dann Santiago zu erkunden. Nach der Woche in der Hauptstadt mieteten wir ein Auto für 25 Tage und machten uns auf den Weg. Da wussten wir noch nicht, was an Mautgebühren auf uns zukommt bis Puerto Montt, aber am Ende war es eine magische Reise. Wir passierten soviele verschiedene Landschaften, Täler, Wüsten, Wälder wie in Jurassic Park, blaue Flüsse, sahen die berühmten Marmorhöhlen, machten Rafting in Futaleufu und wir schafften es sogar bis zum Südpunkt in Villa O‘Higgins. Es war lustig und interessant Chilenische Tramper mitzunehmen, es ist ein guter Weg mehr über Land und Leute zu lernen. Aus Gründen der Bequemlichkeit und des Wetters schliefen wir im Kofferraum des Autos.
Noch eine Info für Hitchhiker, es gibt Gebiete wo nicht viel Verkehr ist, vor allem in den ländlichen Bereichen. Wir nahmen ständig Leute mit, manchmal spät am Abend und sie berichteten uns, dass es fast üblich ist mehrere Stunden zu warten. Für Radler geben wir zu bedenken, dass ihr gute Ausrüstung für eure Reifen braucht und Warnkleidung. Es ist oft nebelig, manche Straßen sind sehr kurvig oder eng und große Teile sind immernoch Schotterwege, auch wenn in den letzten Jahren viel gebaut wurde. Es regnet oft, selbst in der Sommersaison. Für uns war auch das Visa ein zeitbegrenzender Faktor und wir waren froh über die Entscheidung ein Roadtrip zu machen und dadurch flexibel zu sein.

Behind the wheel of a rental chevrolet classic, Laura and me driven along the coast of the Chubut region. In four days we did 889km of road and dirt track from Peninsula Valdés to Punta Tombo and it was stunning.What a pleasure to drive through the infinite plains of rugged vegetations surrounded by dry salt lakes and low mountains.We often stop along the way to observe beautiful landscapes and incredible wildlife. Honestly we did a really touristic circuit. The first day we went to Puerto Piramides where we enjoy the calm of the beach. We slept in the car at the free campsite which is lot more practical than installing the tent. The second day we circled around the Peninsula during twelve hours always on the watch to don’t miss any animal. On the Peninsula are only dirt tracks and you cannot go faster than 60km/h. Hopefully the scenery is really an eye candy for who can enjoy wide open space. After another night in the free camping we headed to Punta Tombo, one of the best place to watch magellanic penguins. Here these cute fellows live in an huge colony and wander around without fear of humans. Walking among them is really a nice experience and will give you a lot of opportunities to take very cool pictures. We spent the third night at the Isla Escondida’s beach next to a group of sea elephants. Their incessant burps and farting sound make a sweet lullaby. At last we went to Punta Loma after a meal in Rawson to observe a big colony of sea lions. We paid around 140 euros for the car and it was totally worth it. It’s probably the best option to explore the area so if you around Puerto Madryn just take the wheel and enjoy.

Au volant d’une chevrolet classic de location nous avons parcourus la côtes de Chubut. En quatre jours et 889km de routes et de piste entre la Péninsula Valdés et Punta Tombo, le nord de la Patagonie nous a régalés de ces paysages et de sa faunes sauvages. Quel plaisir de sillonner c’est paysage de végétation rase entrecoupé de salines, de lagunes et de basses montagnes. Nous allons pas nous en cacher, nous avons fait un circuit très habituelle pour des touristes. Le premier jours nous somme allés à Puerto Piramides ou nous avons savourer un moment de calme sur la plage. Le camping été gratuit et nous avons dormis dans la voiture, plus commode que de sortir la tente. Le lendemain nous avons parcourus la péninsule pendant douze heures, toujours attentifs pour ne rater aucun animaux. Sur la péninsule il n’ya que des piste et la vitesse est limité à 60km/h (Laura roulée la plupart du temps à 40km/h). Heureusement le paysage est splendide pour qui sait apprécier les grand espace. Après une autre nuit au camping direction punta tombo à plusieurs centaine de kilomètres. Cette réserve est un paradis pour les manchots de magellan qui vivent ici par milliers. Tout au long du parcours ils est aisé d’observer c’est oiseaux et leurs attendrissante attitude. Les jeune tapis dans les nids peu profond vous regardent avec précautions mais les adultes se laissent approcher, habitué aux nombreux visiteurs. Le soir nous avons roulé jusqu’a la Isla Escondidas on nous avons dormis à deux pas des éléphants de mers. Leurs incessant râles, bruit de déglutitions et de pets font une berceuse idéal après une longue journée de pistes. Enfin le dernier jours nous avons manger sur la plage de Rawson et avons dormis prés de la réserve de punta loma ou séjourne une importante colonie de lions de mers. 10965 pesos argentin de location (a peu prés 140 euros au moment ou j’écris ces lignes) pour quatre jours extraordinaires, de l’argent bien dépensé. Pour parcourir cette région on vous recommande d’en faire de même.

In vier Tagen und 889 Kilometern haben wir die Küste des Chubut mit einem gemieteten Chevrolet Classik erkundet. Der Norden Patagoniens beeindruckt mit savannenartiger Landschaft und wilder Fauna. Von der Peninsula Valdés bis Punta Tombo durchziehen wir diese endlosen Weiten mit Salzseen, Lagunen und sanften Hügeln. Ohne Zweifel ist es eine populäre Touristen Runde. Unser erster Stopp war Puerto Piramides, wo wir entspannt über den Strand schlenderten und die Ruhe genossen. Zu unserer Überraschung war der Campingplatz kostenlos, so übernachteten wir im Auto um am nächsten Tag zeitig starten zu können. Am Morgen machten wir uns auf die Halbinsel zu bestaunen. Ganze zwölf Stunden hielten wir Ausschau, um ja kein drolliges Tierchen zu verpassen. Mit einer Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung von 60km/h (und Umsetzung von Laura mit Durchschnittlich 40km/h) auf den Schotterwegen brauchte man zwischen den verschiedenen Aussichtspunkten seine Zeit ohne dass es jemals langweilig wurde. Nach einer weiteren Nacht auf dem Campingplatz geht es Richtung Süden nach etlichen Kilometern bis nach Punta Tombo. Dieses Naturreservat ist ein Paradies für die hunderttausenden Magellan-Pinguine. Die Tiere so nah beobachten können ist ein einmaliges Erlebnis mit ihrem rührenden Verhalten. Die Jungen bleiben im Nest hocken und beobachten einen aus sicherer Entfernung, während die Erwachsenen neugierig näher kommen und die Kamera mit herrlichen Bildern füllen. Am selben Abend rollen wir noch weiter bis nach Isla Escondida wo wir zwei Schritte entfernt von See-Elefanten schlafen. Ihre Rülpse und Furze gestalten ein ideales Wiegenlied nach einem langen Tag auf der Asphaltpiste. Schließlich gönnen wir uns am letzten Tag eine leckere Mahlzeit am Strand von Rawson und schlafen nahe der Reserve Punta Loma einer Seelöwen-Kolonie. 10965ARS (ungefähr 140€) für den Mietwagen in vier unbeschreiblich schönen Tagen ist gut investiertes Geld. Sofern möglich, ist es definitiv unsere Empfehlung die Gegend auf diese Weise zu erkunden.

Among all the points of interest in Buenos Aires, the monumental cemetery of Recoleta is a must for all sculpture and funeral art lovers. Under a burning sun, Laura and me wandered among the impressive crypts with our camera trying to capture the singularity of this place. Here, the rich and powerful of Argentina are celebrated through splendid architecture. Each grave gives a stunning interpretation of death with detailed sculptures and mystical symbols. It’s clearly one of my favorite place in BA but I have to admit that I am fond of this kind of romantic and grim vision what makes me probably partial here. Lots of tourists visit the cemetery but it’s still a very calm and charming place ideal for some meditation. After your stroll among the dead don’t forget to check the gigantic gomera tree which strive not far from the entrance of the cemetery.

Parmi toutes les “attractions touristiques” de Buenos aires, le cimetière monumental de Recoleta est incontournable pour les amoureux d’art funéraire, de sculptures et vision religieuses. Alors que le soleil coulait lourdement le long des imposant caveaux, Laura et moi avons déambulés caméra et appareilles photos à la main pour tenter de capturer son atmosphère singulière. Ici les fortunés, les grands hommes et les grandes femmes du pays sont célébrés au travers de splendides architectures fantasmant la mort. Dans les allés, les tombes se succèdent, rivalisant d’inventivité pour sublimer le défunt. C’est à mes yeux un des plus beau lieu de la capital mais il est vrai que je suis partial tant j’aime la sculpture et le mysticisme pompier. L’endroit est assez fréquenté mais reste idéal pour jouir d’un moment calme et méditatif. De plus a deux pas du cimetière, il y’a un majestueux gomero qui ne manquera pas de vous impressionner.

Unter allen touristischen Sehenswürdigkeiten in Buenos Aires ist der monumentale Friedhof Recoleta ein Muss für alle Liebhaber von Skulpturen und religiösen Gebilden. Die brennende Sonne im Nacken,streifen Laura und ich mit gezückten Kameras entlang der imposanten Grüfte um die Eigenheit dieses Ortes bildlich festzuhalten. Hier finden sich die Reichen und diese hohen Herren und Damen des Landes werden mit prachtvoller Architektur gefeiert. Die Gräber sind meist detailliert gestaltet und spiegeln Fantasien des Todes in mystischer Art wieder. In meinen Augen ist es einer der schönsten Orte der Hauptstadt, aber ich bin zugegeben etwas voreingenommen als ein Bewunderer dieser düsteren Romantik. Viele Touris schlendern durch den Friedhof, aber in manchen Ecken ist es angenehm ruhig und lädt zum Meditieren ein. Unweit entfernt der Gräberanlage beeindruckt der immense „Gran Gomero“, ein riesiger Gummibaum, was man auf keinen Fall verpassen sollte.
